Mission Statement

"St Peter's College shall be a community where students are encouraged to stand tall in their Christian values in a positive learning environment".

Location and Facilities

St Peter's College is situated in Palmerston North, home to Massey University which has 3000 MVC-523F.JPGinternational students. There is also the International Pacific College with 400 predominantly Japanese students, a College of Education and a Universal College of Learning. The opportunity for further education is thus excellent in a city that is already very accepting of international students without being saturated.

Academic Programme

Academic excellence is a primary aim. We cater for Year 7 (11 years) to Year 13 (18 years). Years 7 and 8 spend much of their time in a homeroom situation that provides a secure learning environment. They also have some specialist secondary teachers, which prepares them well for the more rigorous academic programme from Year 9 - 13. At all secondary levels students have choices over and above MVC-548F.JPGtheir core subjects like Mathematics and English.

Sports

We have international students in our 1st XI soccer and 1st XV rugby teams. Most students participate in at least one sport. Most popular are soccer, basketball, volleyball and ping pong/table tennis.

Student Welfare

St Peter's College is applying to be a signatory to the "Code of Practice". We do not accept more than MVC-545F.JPG30 international students, meaning that students all become well known to staff and each other and general progress is easier to monitor. Because of the Catholic character of the College, student welfare is of paramount importance.

Accommodation

Homestays can be organised by the school and will be regularly checked to ensure students' comfort and happiness. No homestay is more than 10 minutes by car from the school or city centre. All are on the school bus route.

English Language Support

St Peter's College has two qualified ESOL teachers, teaching students with basic English through to IELTS preparation. We also offer Applied English for Years 11 - 13.

Extra Curricular Programmes

Many international students choose to become involved in drama, theatre sports and the orchestra. MVC-546F.JPGThere are also opportunities in Campus Ministry, interschool and interhouse competitions in areas like singing, debating, drama and cultural concerts in which they perform.

International Student Programme

All students work through an orientation booklet with ESOL teachers upon arrival. They are allocated a "buddy" (if appropriate) and meet with the Dean of International Students once a week for academic and pastoral support.
