Mission Statement

We accomplish this through creating and encouraging a caring, learning community which nurtures and caters for the diverse needs of students.

Location and Facilities

Queen Elizabeth College is a small, multi-cultural, co-educational High School with International and QEC computer lab.jpgNESB students from 20 countries.

The College is situated in the small city of Palmerston North which is famous for its educational facilities and warm hospitality towards international students.

The school is well resourced with well kept grounds, buildings, two gymnasia, a swimming pool, four computer suites, Music Suite (recording studio), Library, and a conversation room for English Speakers of Other Languages.

Academic Programme

The College offers a wide range of subjects from Year 9 level to Adult students taught by highly skilled QEC kiwicooking.jpgstaff in a positive, caring environment. Students can enter for national examinations or qualifications at each of Years 11, 12 and 13. Students can also sit I.E.L.T.S. examinations.

Multi-level study is also available and there are courses in English from Beginners to Advanced, Academic and Conversation.

Sports

A full range of sporting activities is offered, including Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Golf, QEC swimming pool.jpgHockey, Kayaking, Netball, Rock Climbing, Rugby, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Touch, Volleyball, Table Tennis and Weight training. Outdoor Education programmes are available for students at all levels.

Extra Curricular Programmes

Students are encouraged to participate in the following activities: debating, drama, musical instrument tuition, orchestra, rock groups, jazz group and singing groups.

Student Welfare

All students have open access to the services of the college's Guidance Counsellor, Careers Adviser, Deans and senior staff. Students are met on arrival and taken to their homestays. The Dean of ESOL QEC library.jpgstudents is responsible for looking after students at school, and keeps in close contact with parents and homestays. The Executive Officer is responsible for looking after students in their homestay and is available by phone after school hours for emergencies.

Accommodation

Homestay families are carefully selected, monitored and are of a high quality. Board covers all meals, room and laundry.

English Language Support

Classes are available at all levels and cover reading, writing, listening and speaking. Academic English is taught to support students who wish to go on to University or other tertiary study. Students can also sit I.E.L.T.S. examinations. Support for those in mainstream subjects is also available for individuals.
