Where are we?

Palmerston North Girls' High School is centrally located within 10 minutes walk of shops, movies and Massey University. It has extensive gardens and playing fields and is adjacent to Manawaroa Park.

What are we?

PNGHS is a girls' college, established in 1902 and presently with a roll of 1200. It has a long tradition of excellence and success but has very modern equipment and beautiful surroundings. In 2002 PNGHS had 150 students from Non-English speaking backgrounds. Students came from Taiwan, China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Argentina, Venezuela, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Fiji to enjoy our world-class education.

What do we offer?

PNGHS has an English Language Centre, situated in a comfortable, refurbished house on the school property and offers English Language support from Year 9-13. The friendly ESOL staff will prepare you for IELTS exams as well as all New Zealand qualifications. You will receive individual attention as ESOL classes are not usually larger than 12. Individual music lessons are also available from the Music Department and a wide range of sports is also available. International students may choose from the whole range of subjects offered in the Prospectus, but they must come with high recommendations from their schools as we have only 25 foreign fee-paying students studying at our school at any one time. Many overseas students have been successful in Bursary and have gone on to study at Massey and UCOL especially in Maths, Sciences, Business Studies and Design (Clothing and Art).

Who will look after you?

The Dean of Overseas Students is dedicated to the pastoral care of overseas students, however the full range of school support facilities is also available. A special feature of our school is the Peer Support system, where Year 13 students tutor new arrivals so that they settle into the school without stress.

Where do you stay?

We have a Homestay Manager working closely with us. Our Homestay families provide full board close to the school. We recommend that living with a Kiwi family is the best way to improve your English quickly!
