Vision

We want our students to achieve success in academic, sporting, cultural and service areas in the co-educational and multi-cultural environment of a medium sized school.

Location and Facilities

Manawatu College is located near the coast and the Manawatu River between Palmerston North and FRONT SCHOOL.JPG Wellington. We are situated in Foxton, an historic town with tourist attractions.

Our buildings are modern, refurbished, attractive, warm and comfortable. We have a school pool, large fields and a full size gymnasium. The College is medium sized, large enough to offer most subjects but of a size that means students are well known to staff.

Academic Programme

Our academic programme offers National Certificate courses for Years 11 to 13 in conventional subjects such as English, Mathematics, the Sciences and Arts. We also offer courses in Computing, Tourism and Hospitality.

Students in Years 9 and 10 cover all our Technology areas (Wood, Metal, Fabric, Food, Computing) as well as English, Maths, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Art, Drama and Music.

Sports

All the traditional sports are played such as rugby, soccer, netball, hockey, cricket and basketball for both boys and girls.

We also offer swimming, athletics and cross country. Students can take part in activities which take advantage of the natural environment such as surfing, fishing and cycling.

Student Welfare/Support

A senior teacher is the liaison person for overseas students. Students also have access to our guidance counsellor and have a Tutor teacher, Year level Dean and House Dean they can speak with SNR STUDIES ROOM.JPG and who keeps an eye out for them. Senior students support and lead junior students through our vertical Tutor groups and Peer Support.

English Language Support

We have two staff who work with students to help improve their English language. Hours are related to need and are offered on a regular basis. One to one assistance is available. Students are all home stayed and regular use of English is part of their every day life.

Extra Curricular Programmes

As well as Sport we offer Drama productions and individual musical tuition in traditional music such as piano, clarinet and flute and modern music such as guitar, drums and keyboard.

We have an active Outdoor Education programme with camps at our Outdoor Education Centre at Raurimu near Mount Ruapehu. Rock climbing, white water rafting, tramping and caving are some of the activities.
