Location and Facilities

FAHS - Feilding High School is situated in Feilding (pop. 15000).  The nearest city is Palmerston 1.jpgNorth which is 15 minutes away. It is easily accessed by air, bus and rail.

The school was established in 1921. It is a large co-educational secondary school providing excellent teaching facilities, and attractive sporting fields.

There are two school farms used for teaching students interested in Agriculture.

 

Academic

Recent examination results place our school as one of the leading co-educational schools in the lower North Island. We offer a full range of subjects from Year 9 to Year 13. International students choose their subjects and study at the level best suited to their ability in English, academic ability and prior learning.

Extensive computing facilities are available, including an iMac digitial suite and individualised computer learning.

We encourage students to enter for NZQA examinations.

Sports and Cultural Activities

All students are encouraged to get involved in sporting or cultural activities. The school offers most 10.jpgindividual and team sports played in summer and winter in New Zealand. Cultural activities include concert band, pop bands, choir, drama and Maori club.

We encourage international students to participate in sporting, cultural and leisure activities. This is a great way to make new friends and helps develop skills and interests.

Student Welfare

Feilding High School is a signatory to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. A senior staff member is responsible for the welfare of students.  The ESOL teachers are available to assist students with problems. The school has two Guidance Counsellors who students can approach for help.

Accommodation

FAHS - Feilding High School is a boarding school. The school hostel, L.J. Wild House, is on the 13.jpgschool grounds. Junior students are encouraged to board in the hostel. Early application for the Hostel is essential as there is a waiting list. Senior students have the option of homestay which will be arranged by the school.

English Language Support

All international students receive ESOL tuition and assistance with other subjects as required.  There are two trained ESOL teachers available to help. Teacher Aide assistance in class is provided where necessary.

Students with beginner level English will spend most of their time in ESOL until they can cope in other subjects.7.jpg

International Student Programme

FAHS - Feilding High School accepts 30 international students a year from different countries. Reasons students come:

  • to experience a New Zealand secondary school.
  • to learn English.
  • to gain NZQA qualifications.
  • to gain entry to a New Zealand university or polytechnic.

We accept students with beginner level English for intensive ESOL.
